Let’s Get This Straight

The American people have never been freer to speak their minds without fear of censorship or reprisal from the Government than they are under the Presidency of Donald Trump. That isn’t stopping the corrupt American media along with their desperate Democratic allies from working feverishly to convince the public that Trump is a fascist; is executing his plan to become a dictator and freedom of speech is just one of the freedoms under siege. What’s going on?

Let’s start by dispelling the myths about the First Amendment, which guarantees our freedom of speech. The first 10 Amendments to the Constitution are the Bill of Rights.  All of them spell out the rights of Americans in relation to the Government.  They were written to address the fears that the new government would become too powerful and infringe on individual liberty.  The original states would not adopt the new Constitution without explicit protection of their civil liberties.

Those who are determined to find a way to destroy Trump are exploiting the limited knowledge so many have of the actual protection afforded by the First Amendment.  Protected speech is exclusively between American citizens and their government and does not extend to a wide range of other consequences that may come from things we choose to say. Job loss, loss of business relationships, public disapproval, loss of personal relationships and loss of sponsorships are just some of the possible responses to what one says.  Michael Jordan, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, showed he was also an astute business man when he explained why he remained politically neutral.  He said he always understood he was a basketball player; not a politician, and “Republicans buy sneakers, too.”

The horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk is unleashing the furor I believe the majority of Americans feel about the direction the country has been heading for decades.  The murder itself and many responses to the murder have blasted the evidence of where we undeniably are into full public view and Americans are not going to tolerate the intolerable any longer.

We are witnessing firsthand the power of government by the people and capitalism.

Government by the People

The infiltration of the country’s education systems by liberal ideologues who indoctrinate students with a political agenda and trample on the spirited debate of ideas has been a concern of many for a long time.  Following the assassination, literally hundreds of those who have been entrusted with educating our children, from the elementary grades to the universities, showed us who they are.

One teacher posted herself on social media singing God Bless America next to the newscast announcing the murder of Charlie Kirk.

A New York Physics teacher posted a video of himself in an emotional rant saying, “The aspiring Goebbels (a German Nazi) was interrupted by a bullet to the neck which quickly cured him of HVLD (meaning high velocity lead deficiency)”.  He ended his diatribe with “Good riddance to bad garbage.”

A Pennsylvania Technology Education teacher posted “He made millions of dollars by spreading lies and hate…I have not one single F to give.  Karma’s a b____h, eh?”

An Iowa high school teacher posted, “1 NAZI down”.

An Intervention Specialist in Ohio posted, “May you never find rest and always suffer in eternity, Charlie Kirk.  That’s karma.”

Hundreds of teachers have been suspended or fired for their vile behavior and we are likely to see outraged parents rising up in communities all across the country to demand that employees who are so utterly morally reprehensible and who bring their political agendas into the classroom are purged from their school systems.

Capitalism and the Power of the Consumer

The economic system of the United States is capitalism.  It is characterized by private ownership of the means of production and the operation of businesses for profit.  The profit motive drives business owners to produce products and services that appeal to as many consumers as possible.  Success is getting people to buy what you’re selling.

The recent suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show by ABC for remarks he made following  Charlie Kirk’s assassination comes on the heels of a number of media companies taking action against their employees including CBS cancelling Stephen Colbert’s late night show; Terry Moran, an ABC news anchor being fired for posting on social media that Trump is a “world-class hater”; Chuck Todd leaving his job as host of NBC’s Meet the Press to “pursue new opportunities”; Mathew Dowd being fired from MSNBC after calling Charlie Kirk’s words “hateful” and saying “awful words” are often followed by “awful actions” implying Kirk may have brought on his own murder; and ABC settling a lawsuit with Trump with an apology, a $15 million donation to the President’s foundation and payment of $1 million in legal fees because George Stephanopoulus falsely claimed Trump was found “liable for rape”.

The media and the Democrats are hysterically trying to convince the American public that Trump is responsible for these employee actions, leveraging the power of the Presidency to threaten company executives.  That’s not what is happening.

The American public is very dissatisfied with the media.  The entertainment sector is failing to entertain. Some of us are old enough remember when comedy was funny and clean enough for kids – Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, the early years of Saturday Night Live. Large numbers of the viewing public are now tuning out the daily litany of Trump bashing and vulgarity.

The “news” media is the modern-day version of what the founders called the “free press”.  The founders charged the country’s reporters with a critical role in maintaining our freedom: keeping the inevitable corruption of those in power in check by being watchdogs of truth.  This sector has utterly failed in its mission and become a propaganda arm of the Democratic Party.  Our own eyes and ears confirm Trump’s allegation that 97% of the news coverage about him and his administration is negative.  Just a small fraction of the American people say they trust the news media to tell the truth.  The loss of audiences by the companies that have abandoned truthful reporting is destroying them.

The owners of the media companies live by the profit motive.  They see the writing on the wall.  The growing public disgust with the content they have been peddling is likely to be further fueled by the murder of Charlie Kirk and the responses that have followed.  Media company owners are hearing from their affiliates, their sponsors and directly from the viewing public and they are taking actions they hope will reverse the course they are on…not because they have had an epiphany but because they are trying to salvage their companies.

Trump is a man who speaks his mind.  He is not going to muzzle himself because he is President or because there are hordes of Democrats and members of the media waiting to churn whatever he says into the lies that feed their narrative.  He expressed the strong opinion that news media companies that inject a negative bias into 97% of their “reporting” on him and his administration are in violation of their licensing requirement to “serve the public interest.” That’s a debate worth having. The media translates this into Trump wants to silence anyone who criticizes him; laughable since no one has been criticized more than Trump, and he continues to talk to the very people he knows will turn whatever he says into negative propaganda. It is a rare President who tells the people what he really thinks, rather than spew political talking points, allowing each of us to evaluate where we agree and disagree with him. The media decries Trump’s approach because it is “shattering norms” and “unprecedented”, which is exactly why the American people elected him.  We reject the norms and precedents that brought us to where we are.

Joe Biden, the real threat to our freedom in so many ways, insidiously leveraged the forces of government to coerce social media companies into censoring thousands of Americans who disagreed with the Government’s COVID mandates.  He tried to create a government department of “disinformation” to put the Government in charge of suppressing anything it determined was not true.  The media and the Democrats remained silent through it all.

Democrats and the liberal media, desperate to find something that will stop Trump’s momentum, are trying to convince us we are losing our freedom. Let’s get this straight.  We are not losing our freedom.  We the people are taking our country back.
